A Walk in The Woods

It was a strange winter in New England this year, with most of the season’s snow fall seemingly happen only in the first couple weeks of March before a quick thaw. The abbreviated ski season was a bit of a downer, but there is plenty to look forward to in the coming months. NH Fish and Game, is currently restocking the local lakes and rivers with trout, I’ll be fly fishing pretty regularly for a while.

Best of all, the local hiking trails are drying out. I’ve already taken my youngest out for a hike in the woods to explore. It was risky, but well worth it.

The sunshine and warmer weather were a nice counterbalance to the residual ice and thaw of mud-season. For a boy who hasn’t shown always been curious about nature, it was a real joy to see the smile on his face as he stared into the reflecting pool next to the trail. As a parent, you know success is measured in tears, or lack there of. From that perspective, this hike was a success! It was short and sweet, and hopefully we can get out there again soon.
